How long a Reddit account has existed. Many subreddits set a minimum account age, and AutoModerator removes posts and comments from accounts younger than that.
AMA
Ask Me Anything. A thread where a person or company answers questions from the community, usually announced in advance and approved by the subreddit's moderators.
Astroturfing
Posting promotional content that pretends to come from an unaffiliated user. Reddit's rules prohibit it, and moderators remove comments and ban accounts they catch doing it.
AutoModerator
Reddit's rule-based moderation bot. Moderators configure it to remove or flag posts and comments by keyword, link domain, account age or karma.
B
Brigading
Many users from one community voting or commenting in another thread at once, usually after a link to it was shared. Reddit treats it as vote manipulation.
C
Comment karma
The karma an account has earned from upvotes on its comments, shown separately from post karma. Some subreddits require a minimum before an account can post.
Crosspost
Sharing an existing Reddit post into another subreddit. The crosspost links back to the original thread.
D
Downvote
A vote that lowers a post's or comment's score. Heavily downvoted comments are collapsed by default in the thread.
F
Flair
A label on a post or a user within a subreddit, such as 'Question' or 'Recommendation'. Some subreddits require a post flair before a post goes live.
K
Karma
A Reddit account's score, built from upvotes on its posts and comments. Subreddits often use karma thresholds to keep new or throwaway accounts out.
Keyword alert
A notification sent when a chosen word or phrase appears in a new Reddit post or comment. F5Bot and Syften are keyword alert services.
L
Lurker
A Reddit user who reads threads without posting or commenting. Most readers of any thread are lurkers, including people who arrive later from search.
M
Moderator
A volunteer who runs a subreddit: sets its rules, removes posts and comments that break them, and bans accounts.
O
OP
Original poster: the account that started the thread. Replies often address OP directly.
P
Post karma
The karma an account has earned from upvotes on its posts, as opposed to its comments.
Promoted post
A paid ad on Reddit, bought through Reddit Ads and labelled as promoted in the feed.
R
Removed comment
A comment taken down by a moderator, AutoModerator or Reddit's spam filters. Other users see it as removed; the author may still see it on their own profile.
S
Self-promotion
Posting about your own product, service or content. Most subreddits limit it in their rules, and many ban links to your own site outright.
Shadowban
A restriction where an account's posts and comments are hidden from everyone else while the account itself sees nothing unusual. Reddit applies it to accounts it flags as spam.
Social listening
Monitoring social platforms, forums and news for mentions of a brand, competitor or topic. Brand24 and Buska are social listening tools.
Subreddit
A community on Reddit dedicated to one topic, written as r/name. Each subreddit has its own rules and moderators.

Thread
A Reddit post together with all the comments under it.
U
Upvote
A vote that raises a post's or comment's score. Higher-scored comments are shown nearer the top of a thread by default.
V
Vote manipulation
Using multiple accounts, paid votes or coordinated groups to change a post's score. It breaks Reddit's rules and gets accounts suspended.
