Method

We searched Google for reddit ai search statistics, reddit citations chatgpt and reddit google ai overviews, read the pages that ranked, and counted how many of them repeat each number. Each outside number was traced to the organisation that produced it and checked against that page on September 24, 2026. Citation shares come from AI visibility vendors (Profound, Peec AI, Tinuiti, Semrush, SE Ranking, BrightEdge, Promptwatch). Each runs its own prompt set, so their percentages measure different things: share of all citations, share of answers with a Reddit link, or share of the top ten sources. Compare numbers within one source, and check the dates: ChatGPT's use of Reddit dropped sharply in September 2025 and again in August 2026. The research section uses arXiv preprints from 2026, which have not all been peer reviewed. AnswerPlug numbers come from the thread records in AnswerPlug's database for August 17 to September 24, 2026.
